Stary 07.10.2008, 01:46. Greetings from a Spurs fan
Hi,

I am a Spurs fan and I went over to Krakow last week for the game. I stayed for five nights in Krakow and I thought it was a beautiful city, more interesting than Warsaw which is the only other place I have ever visited in Poland. The food was also good...not to mention the beer and the vodka. I was very impressed with the Wisla support at the game. I was wondering what you lot thought of our support? And the game?

Also, I am interested in coming back over sometime, if I can afford it. If I do I would like to come when the Wisla-Cracovia derby is on, as I have heard it is one of the most passionate fixtures in Europe. What are the chances of getting a ticket?

Cheers

Nearest derby is on Thursday and chances of getting a ticket on matchday are close to 100%

As for the support: we've had a few really good moments in my opinion though it was a medicore game- with the sun constantly shining right in the eyes and rapidly falling chances of advancing with every passing minute.
As for your support- It was actually very poor if we take into consideration the amount of spurs' fans in the stadium (of course that's only my opinion). I don't recall any group that would come in high numbers like you did and remain silent almost throughout the whole game (maybe Blackburn). But there's a huge difference in demographics and model of supporting between Poland and Britain...

I agree. Spurs support was a very poor if u want to compare with Wisla supporters.. Look at the game at White Hart Lane.. Our fans was in low numbers there, but still they was louder than a lot of thousands english fans.. So, u have got better football there, but in supporting u have a lot of things to learn
anyway, its not just u.. all supporting in Britain is poor in compare with polish one.. Legia Warsaw, or even Lech Poznan do much better work than u Sorry, but its true
but like I said before, we are hundred years behind u in football

Silent through the whole game?! We sang for most of the game. Maybe you didn't hear us because we were drowned out by your singing, but we were singing. Admittedly it was poorer than usual because of the team's performance at the moment. Two seasons ago at Besiktas our support (and team) were both applauded by the Turkish fans.

I know what you mean about the difference between Polish and British football though. I admire the polish fan culture. It involves a more active style of support. In England there are too many people who just want to watch the game and not sing or anything. For instance, it is usual that the away team will outsing the home team and has been since the 80s. Does this differ in Poland? However, our support is the best in London and one of the best in England along with Man U, Liverpool and Leeds I would say.

We were expecting a lot of trouble from your firm and were surprised to have an easy ride to and from the game and particularly in the bars around the central square later that night. I'm not interested in that sort of thing personally, but some of my friends are. Any reasons why? (just out of interest, I'm not having a go)

Cheers and good luck for the rest of the season

Nobody said you weren't singing. The case is: when a Polish group of supporters comes in a 1000 they aren't that much drowned out by our support. So that puts you behind even relatively weak (vocally) groups like Polonia Bytom who came in smaller numbers than you and made more noise. At least from my perspective (we all hear things differently in different parts of the stadium of course).

In Poland there are several groups that tend to outsing the home crowd (depending on home crowd though- even the best have problems breaking through in Krakow), but Wisla isn't among them. I would say Legia, Lech, Widzew, Ruch- depeding on form, these are groups that manage to mess up the home support. However- in Poland we tend to have definately better home support overall.

^ no provocation mate, as I say I am no hoolie myself, was just asking out of interest that's all.
Krissu- yes, West Ham deserve a mention as well. Their support is loud, but they do not bring the same sort of numbers as Spurs do.

No offence but I hardly believe your supporters are among the best in England after your dispslay on White Hart Lane in the first leg. I saw the whole game with my uncle, who's a Spurs fanatic, on TV and I had no problems singing along with all Wisla chants... it surprised me because the English terasses should be one of Europe's best. I can't say anything about your support in Kraków cause I didn't catch the game... but, even though your team advanced to the group stage, we still believe we are winners because we conquered White Hart Lane

Anyway you are welcome in Krakow at anytime - when our new stadium is finished in 2010 you will witness one of Europe's best atmospheres!

Pallamanski, our stadium wont be finished in 2010.. and to add new topic to the best english supporting team, i do not know why you have not mentioned Toon Army? Newcastle fans are among Liverpool fans considered as one of the loudest.

I was suspecting it wouldn't be finished in '10... but WHEN it is it will be amazing!

I know people from Glasgow who've seen Newcastle and they say it is pretty fu... sweet at St. James Park.

^ fair play mate, sorry about that

Pallamanski-
Yes, I'll admit it was a piss-poor showing in the home-leg. It was quite frankly embarassing to have WHL taken over by you lot, and I've never seen anything like it in all my time. To be honest, the ticket office should have made it so that you have to be on the club's database in order to get tickets (this has happened before with certain opponents e.g. Cardiff, Feyenoord). The only thing our chairman is interested in, sadly, is money. Basically, the ground would have been full of Spurs if there wasn't such a demand from Wisla fans.

In terms of atmosphere, of course you completely outsung us. As I've said though, if a club with strong away support comes to an English ground then it is very normal to be outsung at home. The English terraces stopped being amongst Europe's best a long time ago, and you would have found it the same playing against any English club. Additionally, we have had a very poor start to the season and the fact we expected to beat you contributed to the poor atmosphere from our fans. When we go away we outsing the home fans 99% of the time, Wisla being an exception but I think that Polish fans are, in general, better than English ones.

What are your aspirations for the season? I think you played the ball around well at WHL, whilst both teams were poor in Krakow.

Also, just out of interest, what are the words to your song which goes to the tune of "Yellow Submarine" and starts with "Wisla Krakow..." And what is the English translation? It's been in my head ever since the game!

Have a good day tomorrow against Cracovia

Every season Wisla's aspirations is to be first in the league and... to play in CL but we've never got to groups.

People in Europe really have a reserved opinion about Polish football. People in my country thinks I'm nuts because I travel to Kraków so often to see Wisla. But people like you who have actually been to our stadium understand it completely!

So spread the message!

From what the gossip says- our fans have been registering in the Spurs database. However I'm not sure how it all works, so I guess registering online as a Spurs fan might not be the thing you have in mind.

Pallamanski- yes I understand it. As I have said, I would like to come back over for a game sometime. However, Tottenham Hotspur will always be my true love of course! I admire your dedication travelling so far to watch Wisla.

Mishuh- what I had in mind was the database of people who have already bought tickets for Spurs games. The club keeps a list of the names of people who buy tickets. So for certain games, you must have already bought tickets in the home end to buy them again. This is normally when the club is anticipating violence. In the case of the Wisla game I think they should have done this. Not becasue the Wisla fans wanted to cause trouble, but simply by being there a violent situation might have arose and there were women, kids etc. in some of the stands e.g. Paxton Road (North Stand) where there were lots of Wisla. But I not blaming Wisla fans at all. In fact, at Bayer Leverkusen two seasons ago, there were 8,000 yids and many were in the home end.

Out of interest, how many fans do you think you had at WHL? I'd say 3,000 in the away end, plus 1 or 2 thousand in the home end. How many of those do you think travelled from Poland?

Pabloo- thanks for the info
