West Ham are understood to be showing an interest in Wisla Krakow attacker Pawel Brozek.
The Hammers sold Craig Bellamy to Manchester City last month and Dean Ashton continues to be frustrated in his attempts to get back to full fitness.
Polish sources claim Hammers chief scout Roger Cross was in the stands to pay close attention to Brozek's performance in the recent friendly with Wales.
Cross is said to be greatly impressed by the 25-year-old's first touch and has filed a favourable report to manager Gianfranco Zola and technical director Gianluca Nani.
Former Upton Park striker Cross knows a thing or two about leading the line in the claret and blue colours after also performing for a number of years in the English league for the likes of Crystal Palace, Brentford and Millwall.
The East Londoners will continue to monitor the Wisla star for the remainder of the campaign ahead of a possible bid in the summer.
